MARAETAI BEACH BOATING CLUB

History: Maraetai Beach Boating Club Inc has been in operation since 1954 at in Maraetai Park . Most of the residents back then were casual holiday makers. Maraetai was an isolated beach paradise at the time with access via a rough and dusty road. Some of these holiday makers had sailing dinghies and it was at this time that an idea was formed to organize a Boating Club. A small working committee was formed and Mr E.R.Eady was elected as Commodore for the first season. The Club operated out of a shed on old Maraetai Wharf and regular races were organized for the yachties.

Maraetai Beach Boating Club is a Club which actively promotes all types of boating and encourages all types of aquatic sports such as sailing, including junior sailing coaching programmes. Socialising and dining is high on our priority list and a very active Fishing Committee holds competitions and fishing events throughout the year. The Social Committee holds various functions in the Clubrooms during the year for its members and their guests.

The Club is the venue of such events as the Around Waiheke Yacht Race, a Three day one-based Fishing competition which is held over Anzac Weekend, as well as a very popular annual Friday Fishing Tournament and the Reel Girls Fishing Competition which takes place mid February each year.

The Junior Sailing programme is run over the summer months with excellent coaching by qualified coaches. The Club has a number of optimists for juniors to use who don’t have their own boats. Weekly racing for the older sailors is also popular over the summer.
